The Canadian Charolais Association (CCA) is proud to unveil the 2008 Sire Summary. Summary statistics, a PDF copy of the book or an online search of the contents can be found through the links on the left of this page.
In the fall of 2004 the Canadian Charolais Breed Improvement Committee implemented an updated set of genetic parameters for the Total Genetic Evaluation. With a substantial increase in data since these parameters were originally developed it was important to re-evaluate them. For a summary of these parameters please look to the section Genetic Parameters Heritibilities and Correlations in either the Young Sires, or Proven Sires Summaries. If you are interested in a more complete review of the changes to the model you can review the research paper 'Genetic parameters among growth and carcass traits in Canadian Charolais cattle' in the December 2004 edition of the Canadian Journal of Animal Science.
The Canadian Charolais growth and carcass EPD's can be used by bull buyers as a tool for identifying growth and carcass quality trait differences between sires. The Charolais Association is excited to pave the way in a constantly changing industry.
